How to Host a Pink Halloween Party

Why Pink

Halloween already has such a fun colour palate: orange, black, purple, and sometimes lime green playfully mix and mingle. So why switch it up? Because pink has its own secret magic in Halloween, too. Beyond the gore, terror and sometimes disturbing aesthetics we see marketed more and more each Halloween, there is a softer, more subtle play gaining traction: glamorous Halloween. Think skeletons dressed in furs and ball gowns, powdering their skulls with a pink compact. This Halloween, channel your inner glamor and dramatically feminine edge. If you love pink, then this pink Halloween party theme is ripe for your clever crafting!

Steps for How to Throw a Pink Halloween Party

1. Create the Scene with Pink Halloween Decorations

‘Lovely mystery’ comes to mind when setting a scene for this theme. Accent matte salmon pink with sparkling gold, rose gold or silver. Or include periwinkle or light purple as a feminine secondary colour. Incorporate astrological designs like moons and stars. Play homage to any glamorous witches from film and cinema like Elaine from The Love Witch or Samantha Stephens from the timeless classic Bewitched.

This can be as expensive or inexpensive as you are comfortable with. However extensively you choose to decorate, make sure you consciously and sustainably spend in order to protect your finances. Breaking your budget will only stress you out and make you regret the decision to party, which is not helpful for anybody! You can DIY whatever you want so long as you have a little time and inspiration. And there are lots of fun decorations and things you can acquire – including inexpensive ones – that perfectly set the scene. Here are some fun picks:

2. Prepare Pink Food and Beverages

Time to get crafty! What can we eat or drink that is feminine or pink? Try these fun recipes:

Food and bevvies usually constitute the biggest expense, so be sure to spend consciously within your budget and comfort level. You can keep a lower food budget by having guests bring their own pink drinks or food dish to share. This fun culinary challenge could get everyone’s creative juices flowing! Most people are happy to share, whether in their time if they can spare it or in refreshment provision (see 6. Guest Participation). Always check for any guests’ dietary restrictions and provide at least one or two decent food/drink options for them, too.

3. Set the Ambience with the Perfect Playlist or Video

Planning your playlist can be a lot of fun when you put a little time into it. What you specifically choose to play depends on the type of atmosphere you’re going for. Don’t play something too slow if you’re worried about putting your guests to sleep. But don’t play something too hyper if you’re going for a laid back vibe. If you want a more high-energy dance party vibe, rock out to this instrumental playlist of K-pop by the all-girl band Blackpink. Or, for low-key chillaxation, opt for this purple witchy treehouse cafe soundscape. Ultimately, play whatever music you and your guests would enjoy most!

4. Add Evocative Scents

To truly immerse your guests in a pink paradise, think of ways to engage all of the senses – including the evocative sense of smell. What sorts of scents do you think would complement a pink Halloween party? Burn cotton candy or bubblegum-scented candles to tie in Halloween candy with pink treats. Guests will walk into an almost otherworldly pink Halloween candy land. Or, bake sugary treats in the oven just before they arrive. Sweet scents of baked goods also fit a playful, feminine vibe. For an easy bake, just grab a box of yellow cake mix from the grocery (maybe a dollar from Aldi). For delicious scented candles, try these:

5. Prepare Pink Activities

Games and activities provide structured fun and help keep a party interesting. You could incorporate any of your favourite party games, or try your hand at any of these pretty pink Halloween printables!

6. Establish Guest Participation

Guest participation involves what, if anything, you want your guests to do to contribute to or participate in your party. This is entirely up to you but you need to clarify this when you first reach out to invite people, especially if it involves bringing food to share. Also, clarify whether participation is optional or kindly expected (to make the party what you hope to make it). A great example of guest participation in a pink Halloween party is for everyone to wear pink! You could also challenge them to bring a pink dish to share, as mentioned above.

Always choose your guests mindfully, and with their interests in mind (you may want to reserve invites first and foremost for friends who you know also love pink, of course). As the host, remember to lead your party as the #1 participator. If you encourage pink outfits, don’t forget your own! And if you are having others contribute food, be sure to provide at least one large dish that is both tasty and filling (just in case others end up bringing things that are less tasty or less filling).
