How to Host a Sleek Metallic Theme Party

The Seductive Allure of a Metallic Theme Party

If you love the sleek, shiny look and feel of metallics, use this as decoration fodder and host a metallic theme party! You don’t need a specific reason to host this party. Life is hard – which, contrary to what most people think, is exactly why we need to party. We sprinkle life with parties to celebrate what we’re grateful for and to make the most of this experience we call life. Creative parties are perfect opportunities to fill our need for play, and hosting a metallic theme party is one such very cool way! Here we’ll cover some fun ideas to bring this look to life.

How to Throw a Metallic Theme Party

1. Create the Scene with Metallic Theme Party Decorations

As with any colour-specific party, a metallic theme party is primarily all about how it looks. Most other details are flexible and can be totally catered to your taste, as with any generic party. But the look of your space is what makes this party what it is. So you know you’ve decorated successfully when someone walks in and immediately knows they’re at a metallic theme party.

Whether you wax silver, gold, or any metallic colour in between, there are a lot of fun metallic party decorations to beautifully set the scene. Decorating in metallics is a lot of fun (for those of us who love shiny things, at least). While it can get pricy depending on how elaborate you get, you can usually find inexpensive party supplies if you know where to look. Also note: a fun DIY trick is to simply cover every hard surface and item – tables, chairs, doors, countertop – in aluminum foil!

Here are a few gorgeous metallic finds to make your space sparkle and shine:

2. Serve Metallic Treats

Time for a little alchemy! Food is one of the most fun ways to engage your guests in a theme, so serve up some edible bling. While you’ll want to provide decent food staples that are reasonably nutritious and tasty (toasted baguettes topped with brie, a berry and a rosemary sprig, for instance), definitely craft some delicious gilded treats and cocktails such as these:

3. Make a Playlist with a Metallic Ring to It

While there aren’t necessarily specific types of music that correspond with specific colours, there are characteristics of a metallic theme that pair better with some music than others. Metal is sharp, strong and hard. It’s also the medium for technology – computer chips, automobiles, and modern architecture. It’s therefore best partnered with modern electronic beats such as triphop or lofi. Think of what you might hear at a trendy urban lounge. You wouldn’t as easily associate earthy folk music like acoustic guitar strumming with a metallic theme party. Ultimately, though, the best way to enjoy music at any party is to play what makes you (and hopefully also your guests) feel happy. So play anything you like but prioritize music with a sharper edge to it that reminds you more of metallics.

On the other hand, you and your friends may love metal music, which obviously seems like a fitting audio choice for a metallic theme party! Metal is a high energy genre that sets a very charged vibe, unlike the sleek, chilled out feel that metallic décor entails. Metal music would better fit an actual metal themed party (think industrial vibe, lots of pipes, more matte metal surfaces vs. shiny) as opposed to a metallic theme party. At the time of this writing we don’t yet have that theme in the works, but it sounds wild and fun so there may be one in the future! In the meantime, you of course have creative liberty with your playlist so roll with metal or whichever musical style you like, but the most fitting music genre for a metallic theme party falls under the electronic umbrella.

4. Add Evocative Scents

While stable metal itself doesn’t have much of a smell (the odor after holding coins in your hand for a while comes from a chemical reaction with skin, not the actual coin itself), metallic colours evoke a sleek, masculine feel that pairs nicely with leather and other delightfully masculine scents. So set an inviting aroma by burning a leather-scented candle such as one of these to create an irresistibly masculine charge:

5. Establish Guest Participation

Guest participation is optional and depends on how you’d like your guests to participate or contribute to your party. The best way you can invite your guests to participate in your metallic theme party is to wear something metallic, whether it’s a shirt with a silver sheen or brilliant gold jewelry. Shiny metallic statement shoes, giant silver hoops, or a silver studded leather jacket. With everyone so blinged out, your guests may not make it through TSA after this party!

  • Metallic party decorations
  • Food and beverages (including drinks and treats decorated with edible gold or silver)

1. First, confirm that people can come on any chosen date:
  • Choose party date/time, and preferably alternative date(s) as well
  • Choose guest list and establish minimum number of guests you’d like (to make it worth your effort)
  • Six weeks out, confirm guests’ interest in the party and availability on chosen party date(s)
  • If your preferred minimum number of guests confirm interest and availability, have them secure calendar date for your awesome party!
2. Then, proceed with the fun planning:
  • Schedule time on your calendar for each step of party prep (securing and/or making food/drinks, etc.)
  • Create invitations with all the details and send them out 4 weeks before the party
  • Order any party supplies and decorations 3 weeks out (so they arrive in time to prepare and set up)
  • Shop for any party supplies/decorations you don’t order online, as well as non-perishable food/drinks
  • In your planned time slots, DIY any party supplies and decorations (read: fun with aluminum foil)
  • In your planned time slots, acquire perishable food/drinks early enough in advance to prepare in time
  • In your planned time slots, set up decorations
  • In your planned time slots, prepare food/drinks (depending on how long things keep)

3. Day of Party (in your amply planned time slot):
  • Prepare any foods/drinks that are too fresh to do any earlier
  • Set up any quick/easy last-minute supplies and decorations (if not up already)
  • Prepare ambience (playlist, scented candles)
  • Get dressed in your metallic theme party outfit
  • Once everything’s ready, meditate or do any preferred self-care to get in a good head space if you aren’t already. You want to be a centered, energized, and happy host – both for yourself and for your guests, who will pick up on your contagiously good vibe!
