1. Create a Mesmerizing Crystal Themed Scene

Imagine you are in a cave made entirely of effervescent ruby crystals. The walls, floor, ceiling, stalactites, stalagmites – all of it brilliant, glowing ruby red. Or maybe emerald instead of ruby. Or sparkling diamond white. A sort of surreal colourful glow from your imaginary crystal cave below the earth’s surface where you are completely surrounded by that crystal. Now, I know of no such cave that actually exists beyond imagination – but that’s what a crystal themed party is all about: imaging such a place! While it isn’t feasible or practical (not to mention affordable) to cover your ceiling, floor and walls with actual crystals, there are ways to create a glowing, sparkling effect with things like fairy lights and artificial crystal door beads.

Magical crystal cave:

Caves are naturally occurring geological features of the earth. As such, their formations are uneven and sporadic – unlike the straight, flat surfaces and angles of interior architecture. So to create an otherworldly crystal cavy feel in your home, the idea is to hide your actual walls and ceiling with other shapes and textures that more mimic natural formations.

Use tacks to pin up fairy lights across your ceilings and walls. Then, cover your walls/ceiling with large swaths of tissue paper or sheer fabric to create a cave-like glow. Drape sheer fabric with silver stars for extra sparkle. Tack up the corners of lightweight flat sheets or sheer fabric of any chosen size or colour from your ceiling while letting the center of the fabric sag down, with fairy lights tacked to the ceiling above them, to imitate glowing stalactites.  You can also find plenty of gorgeous crystal fairy lights to string along a mantel or table centerpiece.

Or, create a more earthy effect with the ambiance of a glowing orange candlelit cave with warm-hued crystals. Salt lamps are an excellent way to create this effect. They cast plenty of mood lighting to see by, and they look like crystals. Lighting candles – especially natural-coloured beeswax candles – accentuates this look.

Free range crystals:

Naturally, the best option for a crystal themed party is to display plenty of crystals such as an amethyst geode or citrine stone. There are many beautiful and affordable options! Depending on what you own already and your budget, buying real crystals may or may not be feasible, but you can always have fun with plenty of toy diamonds scattered about. Real or not, you can decorate a crystal themed party with whatever sparkly renditions you have!

2. Prepare Sparkling Refreshments

Dazzle your guests with colourful, gem-toned bevvies and fun crystal-inspired snacks! Of course, provide at least a few healthy and filling appetizers as well (or a full meal if that’s what you’d like to provide). Whatever type of food you’ll share – whether a meal or small bites, indicate as much on your invite. And if you’d like people to contribute a dish, communicate that as well. Most people are happy to contribute (see 4. Guest Participation). But regardless, be aware of any invited guests’ dietary restrictions and provide at least one or two decent food/drink options for them as well.

Here are few crafty jewel-inspired drinks and treats to try your hand at!

3. Set the Ambience with the Perfect Playlist or Video

For a very Zen, spa-like vibe that encourages guests to relax, play a thematic background video such as a crystal cave ambiance or an amethyst crystal fireplace soundscape. For a more upbeat vibe, craft a catchy crystal-themed playlist such as Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend (Marilyn Monroe) or Diamonds (Rhianna). Maybe have both! There is no one-size-fits-all – your choice of audio depends entirely on the vibe you want for your crystal themed party. Put some thought into your audio/visual plan, and have fun with it!

4. Establish Guest Participation

Guest participation is optional and depends on what sorts of things you’ll do/share. A potluck requires that guests share a dish or drink. But as the host of a potluck-style party, be sure to provide at least one large dish that is both tasty and filling (just in case others end up bringing things that are less tasty or less filling). Maybe you invite your guests to come to your crystal themed party wearing as much sparkly costume jewelry (or real bling) as they own. That would be a fun and fitting way to get everyone involved – just make sure you show up wearing your own!

Of course, always choose your guests mindfully and with their interests in mind. Prioritize friends who you know would most enjoy a dazzling crystal scene. But don’t shy away from including others – you never know, you may turn someone on to crystals!

  1. Fairy lights, crystals, salt lamps, and/or any other crystal themed décor
  2. Crystal-inspired refreshments
  3. Music/soundscape and speakers and/or screen
  4. Sparkling jewelry (whether real or costume) – especially if inviting others to wear the same

Preparation Checklist for Your Crystal Themed Party

1. First, confirm that people can come on any chosen date:
  1. Choose party date/time, and preferably alternative date(s) as well
  2. Choose guest list and establish minimum number of guests you’d like (to make it worth your effort)
  3. Six weeks out, confirm guests’ interest in the party and availability on chosen party date(s)
  4. If your preferred minimum number of guests confirm interest and availability, have them secure calendar date for your magical crystal themed party!

2. Then, proceed with the fun planning:
  1. Schedule time on your calendar for each step of party prep (securing and/or making food/drinks, etc.)
  2. Create invitations with all the details and send them out 4 weeks before the party
  3. Order any party supplies and decorations 3 weeks out (so they arrive in time to prepare and set up)
  4. Shop for any party supplies/decorations you don’t order online, as well as non-perishable food/drinks
  5. In your planned time slots, DIY any party décor
  6. In your planned time slots, acquire perishable food/drinks early enough in advance to prepare in time
  7. In your planned time slots, set up decorations
  8. In your planned time slots, prepare food/drinks (depending on how long things keep)
3. Day of Party (in your amply planned time slot):
  1. Prepare any foods/drinks that are too fresh to do any earlier
  2. Set up any quick/easy last-minute supplies and decorations you didn’t want up before
  3. Prepare ambience (audio/visual)
  4. Get dressed with plenty of time in your favourite blinged out crystal themed party outfit
  5. Once everything’s ready, meditate or do any preferred self-care to get in a good head space if you aren’t already. You want to be relaxed, energized, and feeling crystal clear in the head. After all, that’s how to have fun at your own party – you’ll be happier, and guests will pick up on your contagiously good vibe and automatically be happier as well – everybody’s best interest!

A crystal themed party is less about what you do than the atmosphere you create. So make it count by inviting people you love to be around, putting in effort ahead of time to thoughtfully plan and prepare, and creating the most dazzling crystal fantasy – whether your party is laid back or full of high-energy fun!
